Deco-den began in Japan a few years ago and photographs of insane, over-the-top phone cases have been creeping their way onto my social media feeds ever since. Pink, purple, and white “icing” with pearls, beads, adorable buttons, bows… All adorning phone cases, e-readers, video game consoles, and perfectly manicured fingernails.
When there is too much precipitation in one geographic location, there isn’t enough precipitation somewhere else. Because of deco-den, I strongly believe we are crafting our way to a “cute drought”. All of the world’s “cute” is being used to make deco-den crafts, and the “cute” isn’t being distributed as evenly as it once was- or should be. We are all on a crisis rollercoaster, slowly clicking to the top of an epidemic. If someone doesn’t start hysterically crying or having a panic attack soon, we are going to plummet into pandemic territory.
There are only two options: we can attempt to overthrow the power structure that is making this drought possible, or we can embrace this new craft trend and hope baby animals remain at the top of the “Adorable Pyramid.” (So what if I made it up? Baby animals are still currently cuter than anything else on Earth.)
Against our better judgment, we have decided to go with the latter. Let’s hope we made the right decision. Fingers crossed.
Using DecoDen Bling and our Dress It Up buttons, we started making phone cases, but quickly began deco-denning (is this a word? It is now!) EVERYTHING.
If you’re as obsessed with deco-den as we are, show us what you’ve been making!
